  1. I worked for the Orange Crush Company at their headquarters in Evanston right after college graduation, my first “real” job, in 1973. They hired me as an “advertising reimbursement specialist”. The company would ship soft drink syrup to their bottlers and distributors around the country to have carbonated water added and put into bottles to be distributed to stores and sold to the consumer. The distributors were responsible for advertising the product in the region that they controlled. The deal was that Crush Co would split the cost of the advertising 50-50 with the distributor. My job was to receive the advertising invoices from the distributor, divide the cost of the advertising by 2 (50-50 split remember) and make an entry showing how much was to be reimbursed to that distributor for the advertising cost. There were probably 100 of us doing this 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I remember we sat in 10 rows of 10 persons each at grey metal desks all facing the same direction. You can imagine how mind numbing that was. Anyway, being a college graduate and a very social person, I tore through my pile of invoices pretty quickly and they wanted to talk and socialize with the other folks. NOT ADVISABLE BEHAVIOR. I was fired after about 4 weeks. They told me I was “a distraction.”

  2. When I was around 5 yes old my dad used to buy me orange crush when we went fishing.
Was it made with real orange back then? (1965)
